  1. well, normally you'll wake up and have a sore jaw, a headache, or just pain in the general area. That's how I figured I did that. So I went to my dentist and asked him to look for signs of grinding teeth and he could see that they were wearing down faster than they should. So ask him next time you go for your annual check up. It's going to be fine. You probably don't have that problem.

EDIT: I don't have TMJ just because I grind my teeth. That's a seperate symptom. Usually causes jaws to lock while eating or talking.

  2. if your jaw hurts in the morning.

Tooth grinding, or bruxism, as doctors call it, occurs at night. Most bruxism is either the result of crooked teeth or an unconscious means of relieving tension, or both.

Ask your dentist if you could benefit froom an oral splint--a small clear plastic disk that is worn at night.  It separates your top and bottom teeth from each other so you chew on the disk instead of your teeth.

  3. I'm starting to have this problem as well. It's a  major symptom of TMJ syndrome. And you can tell if you jaw, or mouth hurts when getting up in the morning. Some people even do it all the time. Hope I helped.

  4. I never knew i did this but i did have some warnings which i didn't heed.  I was not grinding my teeth.  I was clenching my teeth.  It is almost like grinding because i was wearing my teeth down.

I bought a nightguard from my dentist for $100.  Then i saw an ad for www.splintek.com and www.dentak.com.  I tried several and found one that works fine.  If i don't wear it, i am sorry.  I chipped a tooth during a nap recently by clenching down on it so hard.

  5. Just have another person sleep with you in your room. usually when ppl grind their teeth its really loud! My little sister does and its a disturbing sound.
