How to tell the difference between a male and female fire bellied toad

i just bought two fire bellied toads and need to know if they are female or male

  1. females are bit bit bigger and built more.


  2. These are some of the hardest animals to tell genders. The female is normally larger and darker. Get an approximate size for the toad in your terrarium then go to the pet store and see how it compares. If yours is larger it is probably female if it is smaller it is probably male. The male gets horny nuptual pads on its hands during mating season. The male jumps on to the back of a female and makes a "barking" noise.  

  3. it is really hard to tell the sexes of fbt, the females tend to be bigger than the male but it is the soft woo woo sound that the male makes when it is calling in the evening, the main difference is when they are in their breeding season the male will get a row of femoral pores, but while they are the same size you can't really tell which one is male or female, the best thing you can do is watch them really closely  and see if they are attempting to mate or see if the male calls out in the evening, best of luck with the toads honey

  4. If they croak, they're male.
