  1. Look at the colour of the ridge above its beak where the nostrils are-if it's blue then it's a boy and if it's pink then it's a girl. In a male baby it is a purplish-blue which turns into a bright blue when it matures. In a female, it is sometimes a very pale blue that turns into a pinkish-brown. Another difference is that on the females it tends to have a rough texture but on the males it is smooth. Sometimes it can be hard to tell when they're very young.

It will probably stay tame if you play with it regularly but make sure not to hurt it.

  2. As your bird is only 12.weeks ? it will take it till it is at least 48 weeks before you will know it's true s*x.

At this age (48 weeks) it should have moulted, that is it will loose it's old feathers and grow new ones, the cere or nose what ever you like to call it,the spongy bit on the top of it's beak,a male will turn to Blue, a females will turn creamy fawn to brown.

By what you are saying you have a nice tame little bird and with the correct attention will all-ways be tame

  3. blue on ridge over-nose for boy and a normal whitish/clear for girl

  4. Put your head under its perch...

  5. Put a bow on it's head. If it suits it, it's a girl. And vice-versa.

  6. In a baby the cere (bit abve the beak, where the nostrils are) is usually a light purply colour. In a male bird it turns blue, in a female a beige colour.

If you want your budgie to be tame you need to start when it's very young. Approach the cage, talk to it in a low voice and try gradually introducing your hand. Once your bird is tame it should always be tame, but by giving it lots of personal attention it should bond to you and want to be with you. Make sure it has plenty of freedom to come and go from its cage as it pleases, but make sure it can't get out of the house.

  7. Hi,

Yeah thats true males get a blue cere and the females goes brown. Its not the actual beak what changes colour but the small area of bare sking where the nostrils are. If the budgie is tame normally they stay tame as long as you handle them enough. You may find though that as they come up to breeding age then it may turn more broody especially in the females.

  8. females have brownish ceres and males have blue ceres
