I am trying to get TV to another room in the house. I have a splitter set up. The trouble is, there are so many cables to choose from I don't know which one leads to the room I want. Some of the cables in a few rooms are labeled, but not the room I want. How do I figure out which cable leads to which room?

  1. Well you can go to Radio shack and get a cable toner, it will beep when you attach one end to the cable in the room you want, and the other end at the splitter. This is an expensive way to do it, there is another way, it could take a bit longer depending on the amount of cables, take a TV and hook it up in the room, go to the splitter, if every cable is hooked up, unhook them until the TV signal goes off, if they are not hooked to the splitter, hook them one at a time until the TV picture comes on. Then Mark the line.

  2. follow the cable to main source and label each cable for each room.

  3. If you have a tv in the room you can move the cables around until you find out which one it is. Have a friend let you know when it comes on or goes off. The only other way would be if you have metering equipment.

  4. You need a "Cat & Mouse". As the other person stated, it's a tone generator and a tone receiver that traces cables. Connect the tone generator to the outlet in the room, use the receiver to touch each cable on the other end. When the receiver sounds off, you found your cable. You can find the "cat and mouse" at home depot, lowes and most home stores.
