  1. Compare it with another multimeter, oscilloscope, power supply, etc.


  2. One way i know how to test voltmeters it to take a new AA battery and hold a contact point to each terminal.  The meter should read 1.5 volts.

    Also use this test with a 9 volt battery in order to properly calibrate it.
