Question:

How to test which part of 99 Ford Taurus alternator is bad?

Took my alt. in to get checked, they said it had no output. So how do i test my alternator to know that a repair kit will fix it. Repair kit caomes with:

1. rectifier

2. regulator

3. bearings

4 brush holder with brushes

Do I simply check the windings for continuity and no shorts to ground?

It looks like the rest is in the repair kit.

Have not done much with alt's. Usually just replace them, but that seems crazy when I fix anything else that I can.

Thanks for any hints and help,

Brad

  1. look on the back of the alt. and you will see a small hole with a arrow place a o-ring pick or small sc-driver in and it grounds the reg. if you start to change its the reg. if no change then its the windings

a kit is only $60-70 and easy to install as long as you can solder you can do it  gust take your time and fallow the instructions

  2. yeah, i would definitely just replace them, they seem kind of pricy on your car, ranging from 135 to 200 dollars

i would check to see if you can get one from a salvage yard

i use this website alot for looking up used parts and availability
