How to thaw??

Question

how do you thaw out your freezer? and can you with a top freezer bottom fridge? ours is icing over and we wanted to try that before buying a new one..

Put a big container of hot water in it.  Resist the temptation to smash ice off -- you can damage the coolant tubes.

why dont you just leave the door open on your freezer. Of course find a place to put all your perishables...

Shut her down, leave the door open for a few hours, keep mopping up the water.  The ice will start dropping in big chunks, toss em in the sink.  When the inside of the freezer is free of ice and water, give it another hour or two for the coils to thaw.  Dry it again, fire it up, and you are done.  Don't give in to temptation and chip at it, you can cause some real damage.
