How to tie a knot that allows the length of the string to change?

i want to make a necklace and i want to knot the string so that i would be able to adjust the length of the string, but i have no idea how to make that knot...

Hi

We use a "fisherman's knot" on a lot of our necklaces. Rather then trying to describe it to you I found a website with pictures.
