Question:

How to tie up short hair into a pony tail?

My hair looks like the hair on my Yahoo avatar, but longer...like right at my shoulder. I've been playing basketball for the last 6 years with my hair down and I really can't stand it anymore, so I want to tie it up. But when I try to, there's always tons of bumps and the hair on the back of my head is all messy once the pony tail is up. My pony tail is only like 4 inches long, so it's really hard to pull my hair back and get it into the hair-tie. So I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how I could get my hair up more easily, and make it look less messy in the back.

Thanks in advance.

  1. I think my hair is probably about the same length as yours, and it's such an awkward length sometimes, isn't it? For my ponytails, I pull my hair directly back from my face (like with the part showing, but loose enough so it's not that slicked look) and get as much as possible into the ponytail holder. Then one trick I've used for that short hair that hangs down at the back of the neck is I put it in a little braid and then pin that braid up towards the ponytail with a bobby pin, so everything is off your neck. Then I add some bobby pins to pin up the hair that still falls down by the sides of my face.

  2.    I had short hair too for a while and I dance so I needed to put my hair up for it, what I used to do was flip my head over and tie it at the crown of my head. The higher you go the longer the ponytail.

    Hope it helps!

  3. i have the same hair length as you !

i'm required to wear my hair up for my job, so this is what i do:

i'll pull back as much as i can and tie it into a low ponytail, so that there's about an inch of hair between the roots on the bottom and the elastic.

then i'll brush the sides down, twist them a bit and pull them back. then bobby pin or clip it so it stays up.

if you wanna make it look messy, just tie your ponytail into a messy bun instead.

once you're done, hairspray it lightly, enough so that it will stay.

and if it won't stay in a regular elastic, try buying some of the small, clear ouchless elastics. they're real cheap and you get around 50 of them in a pack.

    good luck !

btw: once my hair is tied back, it basically looks just like my avatar [: haha.

  4. Use lots of bobby pins and  hair spray!! lots of it! it will stick your hair into place. if not try wearing it half up, but ulitmately the goal is to  get a full pony tail.. so i say bobby pins/hair  clips and lots of hair spray or gel

  5. Lots of people stick mountains of bobby pins to keep the short parts back, or headbands - the soft ones. Generally that works. Also, if you're willing, gel keeps the rest of the hair in order...Or else you can use a brush to brush back as much hair neatly as you can, and then bobby pin the rest. Really, that's all I can think of at the moment!
