How to trace an IP address from an AIM screen name?

Someone IM'd my bf on a sn we both didn't know and said some nasty things. I tried to IM them but they just signed off and have yet to ever come back on. Is there any way I can track who sent the IM just from knowing their sn?? Please Help!

There is no way to find out their IP address through an AIM screen name and EVEN if you managed to pull it off you cannot find out who it is. All you can figure out is:

Their ISP

Their country

Maybe their city or the general area(depending on how the ISP routes traffic)

Unless they, like one person already said, broke a federal law on some major scale then your ability to get their IP is pretty much null

There is no way to find out...unless you report them to the feds and had proof they were committing a federal offense. They would need to launch a full on investigation to find the person's IP address.

My guess is they come online frequently, but you cant see them because they have blocked you.

Sorry, not from a screen name. You could add their screen name to @yahoo or whatever messanger they were using and look it up on myspace though.

I know from yahoo messenger you can get the person to download a file from you like a mp3.t.Basically what you need is Command Prompt which every computer has,go there and type netstat and hit enter.That will give you the Ip addresses,ports and some other stuff that your computer is connected to.Edit you will see two.one is yahoo's the second one is theirs.Unless they are running through a proxy server.Then you will never get their Ip address.Forget about the Fbi those guys are reject's.
