  1. Do buildups. Run every day for  week and gradually increase the distance. Like, the first day do a half mile, then a mile, then 2, then 3, and keep building up until you can run like 6 miles without stopping. Imagine how easy 3.1 miles will sound then? My coach had us do a lot of biking, like 8 or 10 miles, too.

  2. Gradually build the amount of time you can jog/run.  Build the endurance base first.  The coach will give you occasional speed workouts during the season.  For now, base it on the number of minutes you jog and add a minute or two every other day.

You cannot get into great shape in a short time.  Be patient and stick with it.  Be sure to do stretching as well, before and after running.

  3. i run xc and my team trains by starting out at 20-25min, depending on your abilty, then each week you increase your time up 5 min

we do that until we get to about 40-50 min then our coach starts workouts about 2 times a week(normally hill workouts or fartlicks or tempo runs)

just be making sure your increasing your mins & how often you run, once you get up to 30 min you should be running 6 days a week and cross training on the 7th day by swimming or biking, or take it off if you really need too.

also pick up your pace each week and try to runon hills to buid muscle, lifting weights would help too

  4. Run more than three miles it is good training
