How to train to cut a mile time from 9 minutes to 7.?

Currently I can only run around a 9 minute mile. Form that, you can tell that I'm not in great shape, so I am looking for a good way to train for a faster mile.

  1. keep practicing or run a longer distance so when you only need to run a mile you can increase your speed


  2. try to run for a longer duration

    once u start runnin for a longer duration ur speed will definately increase when it comes to short distances

  3. 9 minutes isn't that bad for the average person. The first time I timed a mile I got like a 9 minute mile too; now I run about a 6:30. A good strategy to improve your speed is to pace yourself. Start out by running a mile a day like five days a week and then keep raising the amount of mileage. If you have any friends to run with invite them. You could also try setting a reasonabe goal each week and time a mile w/ a watch. Don't expect immediate results but eventually you'll get there. Trust me.

  4. Just keep training. You will naturally get faster. If you run consistently for a month or two, your time will drop drastically.

  5. train at 1-3 miles a day for 5 days of the week. make the pace at 10:00 for you. Gradually or frequently your time will be faster. eating helathy helps too.

  6. run up the stairs of the empire state building, w/o stopping
