How to transfer from Mini DV on Sony camcorder to Pc then Burn to DVD?

I would like to know step by step how to transfer my Mini DV recorded films on my Sony camcorder firstly to my PC then onto a DVDr. I have a Windows XP and it has a 16x dvd-rw facility. The camcorder is Sony camcorder and i have saved to desktop the software that came with it and can connect it to pc and playback the films but that's all i know. Please advise me simply how to save films to pc and then onto dvd. I'm new with PC. I have nero on my desktop and only know how to burn cdrs. thanks

Probably, most wouldn't agree that miniDV tape as archive media is not the best, since even big business super computers use tape to archive. But for playback, DVD disk would by far be best in convenience.

a miniDV vcam must be FIREWIRE**-connected to pc to upload video thru video capture or video editing (VES)* software while vcam is on playback. Note: DV or Firewire port of vcam is 4pin. Before cable purchase ** (Vcam-4pin->CABLE->PC (4/ 6pin?), check the firewire port of PC whether 4 or 6 pin. If none, procure firewire card: pci for PC or pcmia for laptop (Google).

Video Editing* Steps:

CAPTURE VIDEO:  video stream from tape-based Vcam

a.) Connect miniDV vcam to pc via FIREWIRE

b.) Set vcam mode to playback, set for capture, pause

c.) Open wmm and set to TASK pane

d.) Click Capture from video device; wmm  controls vcam operations- on play, video stream is captured to wmm/COLLECTION

IMPORT FILES:  from pc folder

e.) Import video files**  

f.) Import other files: pics, music, narration as u wish

EDIT MOVIE:  create project- movie  

g.) Drag&drop video files from collection to TIMELINE chart below at the desired sequence

h.) Enhance video: drag&drop music, effects, transition; create titles…re-edit as you wish

FINISH MOVIE: render muvee file

i.) Render/Save MUVEE to pc and/ or share- CD; Save project file (work-in-progress) for future edits.

Finally, SHARE:

j.) Burn to DVD***   (wmm2 only on CD)

   *** use DVD authoring program, e.g., Nero, etc
