How to transfer my video from my video camera to my computer?

i have a JVC mini DV digital video camera (model # GR-D290U) and i want to transfer my video to my computer but i dont no how to. ( and my video camera didnt come with a wire.)

  1. if it didnt come with a wire, then there is no way to connect it. check local stores that sell electronic wires and it is possible you can find a wire.


  2. ALL miniDV tape based camcorders transfer video the same way - with a firewire cable. USB will not work. Firewire, IEEE1394a, i.Link and DV are all the same thing.

    Your computer needs to have a firewire port. You did not tell us what kind of computer you have so we don't know if you already have one or if you need to install one - or if you computer can even add one.

    Page 4 shows what came with the camcorder - there were cables - but not the one you need.

    Refer to page 45 regarding connection to a computer. Only the DV version will work. USB will work ONLY for transferring stills off the memory card (if your camera uses one). See where it says the DV cable is "Optional" - that means it did not come in the box. You do not need the "core filters" indicated in the picture.

    Since we do not know your computer model or firewire port type, we do not know which firewire cable you need.
