My friend has a JVC GR-D372U. He accidentaly recorded something on the cassette instead of the SD card. Is there any way to transfer what is recorded on the cassette onto the SD card so that we can upload it to the computer?

  1. If the cassettle is digital then using Option (2 b) below would the best bet but if it was copied onto VHS then, first you will need to digitize it since it is now analog.

If your computer has a SD card port then you can put the VHS onto your hard drive then put your SD card into your PC's SD card port and this port will now show up as a new drive. You will then be able it from your drive your SD card

But since I do not know what equipment you have, the best solution might be option 1 below. Once you have the DVD then you should be able to find someone with a SD card port on their PC and then you could copy from the DVD to the SD card.

Option 1) Send the VHS tape to a video transfer service. There are many on the Internet and it will run about $30.

Do a google search and search for: vhs dvd service

    Here is one for $30.00:

Once on the DVD then you can move it anywhere.

    2) The cheapest:

    Needed:

      Camcorder

      Microsoft Windows XP/Vista or Apple

      TV and a VHS player

    A) Setup a digital camcorder and play the VHS then record the image playing on the TV.

    B) Then using the camcorder's USB or Firewire connection download from the camcorder to your PC, using Microsoft's movie maker

Option 3) Buy a transfer kit then do the transfer yourself, I like using Dazzle DVD Recorder. This will allow you to hook up your VHS to your PC and download the stuff into your PC.

  2. That was no accident - MiniDV camcorders record video on tape, not memory cards.  You'll need to capture the video via firewire - if your PC hasn't already got one you'll need to install a firewire card. They're cheap, easy to install and readily available. You'll also need a firewire cable.  Once everything's connected you can capture and edit the video with Windows Movie Maker (should already be on your PC).
