How to transfer videos from DVC to computer?

I have recently bought sony handycam which supports DVC. Now i wud like to transfer them to my laptop. I know i have to use i LINK cable. But do i need to have some thing else in my laptop too ?

  1. with your camcorder there shouldve been a CD with software.

    install it and read up on how to transfer the video to your computer


  2. I presume you mean MiniDV.

    You need to have a working firewire port on your computer.

    You will connect the DV port on the camcorder to the firewire port on the computer with the firewire cable.

    Which firewire cable you use will depend on the firewire port on your computer. The DV port on the camera is always 4-pin. The firewire port on your computer can be either 4-pin or 6 pin.

    Firewire, 1EEE1394a and i.Link are all the same thing. Once you get the firewire port working on your computer, no other camera-specific drivers are required.

    USB will be used ONLY for transferring stills from the memory card or for webstreaming - ONLY if your camera supports either of these features... and instructions will be in the camcorder manual.

    Yes you need to have a capture device in order to import the video footage. you must also have a editing software to edit. You can get ether an external or internal capture card. check out my web guide for more tips about capture cards
