Question:

How to travel economically in Sydney in 1 week's time?

I have a week break in Sydney this early July. I know a week is definitely too short to visit as many places as possible. But I want to maximise my time there. SOS.

Was thinking of taking a 3 or 4 day tour (inclusive of accommodation & food) to get to places like Blue Mountains and go around Sydney city on my own. If yes, any reliable tour agents to recommend? Does it still cost AUD400 per person for such tour?

Would this help me to cover most of the interesting places economically?

  1. The bestest cheapest way to travel around Sydney is to go to any Train Station, Bus or Ferry and buy a pass that will get you everywhere on either a Train, a bus or a Ferry around Sydney for a week for a set price, I am unsure but probably around $30 or $40 you could googlel NSW Transit Authority, or something like that.  The Blue Mountains are about 2 hours tops by train, not very expensive for a return ticket.  There will be cheap places and more expensive to stay, can't help you there.  I can't imagine taking a 3 or 4 day tour, you won't need to, the public transport system is pretty good and you will be able to zip over to Bondi Beach, or jump on and off buses all around Sydney with your weekly pass.  My advice to you is to try and get a Glovebox map (UBD) of Sydney, you could pick up last years copy at a cheap book store and have a good look at where you want to go and how to get there, ie train, bus, ferry boat.  You can do ALL the major Sydney tourist spots on regular transport no tour needed.  The best train station / subway view in the world greets you when you get of at 'Circular Quay' the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge will knock your socks off! walk downstairs and catch a ferry to Taronga Park Zoo or Manly and hit the beach and have fish and chips!
