Question:

How to treat Generalized Anxiety

I am 14 years old and I was recently diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder and want to know how to treat it.

My psychiatrist wanted to prescribe me Medication to help especially with the upcoming school year. My parents both are extremely against me using pills for my Anxiety. My mom has GAD too and my Dad is Bi-Polar, but neither are on medication.

The reason they are against the meds is because they say pills will ruin my liver and my kidneys. I asked my mom how she copes with Anxiety and she said she smokes cigarettes to help.

I DO NOT want to start smoking cigarettes.

I have tried meditating, just thinking, relaxing with no sound, and even praying.(I'm agnostic)

My mom wants me to use these DVD's from 1982 she has but I doubt they will work.

What should I do?!?!?! I'm sick of living like this!!!!

  2. Tell your mother to order the anxiety and depression cd's from  lucinda basset and the midwest center for anxiety and depression.  This could really help alot.  Also, it is very important to see a therapist.  At your age you could make a lot of progress towards dealing with these issues and not have to be on medication for the rest of your life.  Because this is a genetically linked disorder, you need to take it on yourself to learn what you can so that one day you can help your kids through it appropriately should they suffer as well,  Hang in there and good luck, I know you can do it.  www.stresscenter.com

  3. Your parents are extremely smart but you can tell your mother that she is addicted to a drug. Smoking-- nicotine is a narcotic. You should try physical things like exercise (like running) or better yoga or tai chi. See site below for more help with anxiety.

If you do not have enough money, you could take drugs, like alcohol or crack, to feel better and many do. But that does not cure it. The cure is to make more money. If you are depressed, the cure is not to take a drug, like Prozac. The cure is to be happier. If you have panic or anxiety, which everyone feels at one time or another, the cure is not to take drugs. The cure is to feel more tranquility, calmness and peace of mind. See site below for more on this. Peace be with you.

"Drugs only suppress symptoms, and they cause disease because they are toxic." In More Natural Cures Revealed, Kevin Trudeau says "The facts are clear, drugs, both prescription and non-prescription, do not make you healthier, they make you sicker. Drug companies are not interested in your health. Drug companies only want you to buy and use more drugs. If you want to cure yourself of any disease you have and remain healthy, you must eliminate all non-prescription and prescription drugs."
