Question:

How to treat and prevent blisters on the ball of the foot when playing soccer

I play soccer obviously but the point is I have a problem with blisters on my feet, at least thats what I am going to refer to them as.

I have read quite a few tips and what not, but I was hoping for some first hand experience and for people to qualify what does work and dismiss what doesn't.

I have taken a few steps so far, I just purchased new cleats and I have doubled up on socks at the moment.

As for my situation in particular, I am a somewhat overweight so I think that is what is making my blisters particularly nasty and hard hitting. Keeping in mind that while cleats are used for good traction and allowing players to change direction abruptly, this may be working against me, but then again many a player bigger then I have played the same or similar sports so...

My blisters only, at least so far, affect the ball of my foot (under my big toe), and one time several layers of skin ripped off entirely from the ball of my foot.

I have been thinking about taping and wasn't sure if that would be the best route. If you do suggest it, what kind of tape should I use, and how do I apply it?

Any other product or rigs to prevent blisters would be greatly appreciated and even more so if you can tell me where to find the items.

  1. i have had the same problem for a while now. i found out that doubling on socks actually tighten your foot in the cleat making it just like if you bought your cleats too small. also new cleats must be broken in just around the house first.

what i find best is asking a trainer to tape it for a while and then by watching them do it you can figure out how to tape your own foot. what my trainer used was athletic tape. but he also used a rather new treatment called second skin. its a little gel pad you put over your blister before you tape over it so it doesnt rub your blister and make it worse. it comes right off when you need it to. you should be able to find tape and second skin blister pads at your sporting goods store. make sure you get this done right away. i had this for a week straight at soccer camp. it was definitely no fun.
