How to troubleshoot three pin trolling motor receptacle?

I have a motorguide 24 volt trolling motor and have tried to power it through my bow receptacle. It has a 12/24, 2(12) and charge switch next to the receptacle. The motor has a plug with black, yellow and red leads. When I plug it in the motor won't run in any position. What could be the problem? What battery configuration should be used? What position switch should the motor run? Thanks

  1. black wire is negative DC (battery) power.  Red wire is positive DC power and the yellow is the ground for charging if it is hooked up like mine is.  It could also been the 12volt dc side to run your lights and the red and black are 24 volts dc to run your motor.  I would say you have a blown fuse if it is not running at all and you know your batteries are good.  you can also try wiring up to 24 volts by itself and see what happens.  If you hook it up backwards the motor will run in reverse if you select forward and vise versa.
