  1. If on a wall, you could roll on a satin clear poly finish, but theres no flat poly,it would just reduce shine. Easier to just repaint.

  2. Ya don't. Go buy flat, sand the existing gloss and apply 2 coats of flat or semi-gloss.

  3. Do you mean still in the can...or painted on something.

The first is not possible - you could mix it with the same color in a flat paint and come out with a low gloss...

But if surface is already painted, then you are going to have to primer over it and repaint with a flat paint.

If it is a wall, then you can just clean the wall, apply primer and paint with flat paint.

If it is a high gloss stain you are trying to cover up, you will have to sand down the gloss, then primer then paint.  Or re-stain and use a clear-coat that is not glossy.

There is one other option... you can buy some clear-coat that is not glossy and try applying this over the surface.  I have not tried it myself.  I assume that the gloss would still shine through, but maybe not... might be worth a try since the other solutions are a lot of work.

    Good luck.
