How to turn the volume up on my mediacom cable box without the remote?

We lost the remote and you can turn the volume on the tv up but it doesn't get any louder just static. And i know it's not the tv b/c i can play dvd's and i can control the sound just fine.

  1. I've not seen a cable or satellite box with a volume control. The volume is usually controlled by the TV (which contains the amplifier) or an external AV receiver (if connected that way). Are you sure the audio feed from the cable box is properly connected?  Your symptoms sound more like a poor connection (or possibly an incorrect audio input selection on the TV) than anything else.


  2. Not knowing exactly which model of box you have makes it kind of difficult to be specific.

    Some cable boxes do indeed have internal volume controls.  Sometimes these features are not accessible from the front panel.  I would try contacting Mediacom and asking about a replacement remote.
