  1. insert windows XP cd and restart ur PC

when it says to push button to boot from cd/dvd hit any button then follow the instructions setup gives to you format the partition on which vista is installed and then install XP on it

  2. You can install Windows XP first without removing your Windows Vista. Once you have succesfully installed Windows XP and you are satisfied with its operation, then you can remove Windows Vista (simply delete the Windows Vista folder).

I managed to grab a webpage that contain the detailed installation steps for Windows XP. Just open the link below.

From your additional comments, it seems that you cannot boot from the XP CD, and the boot process automatically loads Vista instead. In this case, you have to change your 'BIOS settings'. In the BIOS settings, look for the parameter called 'boot-priority'. Make sure that the CD drive is the first drive listed in the boot-priority sequence. What this means is that your PC will attempt to boot from the CD first before attempting to boot from other drives (Floppy or Hard-drive). Depending on your computer, you have to keep pressing either the 'Del' or 'Esc' key right after you pressed your computer's Power-On switch, until the BIOS menu appears on your screen.

If your computer supports Vista, it should also support Windows XP.

  3. 1 insert am xp disk

2 boot computer up with cd drive

3 when computer boots off the xp disk say you want to install xp

4 when it askes u where to install it, delete the current partion vista is on

    5 create a new partition

    6 format that partion

    7 install xp

everything will be wipe off computer so save any data u want to keep

also keep in mind before u do it, call the computer manufacture and see if xp will work.  xp may not be compatible with the video drivers and drivers for your dvd player.

PS Follow Botsakis G suggestion about the BIOS, just change the boot order make sure it boots in CD first.  But do not simple install XP then remove Vista, yes that will work BUT there will always be reminites of Vista in the registries that way and you will run into problems with certain software thats just not compatible with Vista, so do what i said that way u start with a clean computer of just XP.  I've tried it Botsakis G way on clients computers, and i have run into that problem, a few times not always but its happened, and for an extra 15 minutes of work just do it the correct way it will save you hours of work if you have to do it again my way.

But im telling you from first hand experience, call the manufacturer first, not all computers can be downgraded from Vista to XP, some new computers come with video cards that are only supported by Vista and they do not have XP drivers, same for the DVD.  So before you do anything make sure first, the odds are you can downgrade it, but why waste hours of work when a 5 minite phone call will tell u first.
