How to unlock chars on super smash bros brawl cause im confused?

Question

I went into brawl mode where the story opf wario stealing all those ppl. And i wanted Zero Samus suit and ToonLink, Plus some other chars to unlock. Once i beat some places and says i unlocked "Zero Samus Suit" or any other person. I go to brawl fight where i play some chars but i didnt find her. or some other chars i unlocked. Do i keep winning at fights on the other brawl? to unlock the chars. I need help Lol

To use Zero Suit Samus at the start of a match, select Samus on the character screen and hold the following button before the match starts with the corresponding controller that is being used:

Gamecube/Classic controller: Hold the R button

Wii Remote with Nunchuk: Hold the Z button

Wii Remote: Hold the Minus (-) button

For the other characters, just keep playing brawls (they all have a unlock at a certain number of battles) or play Subspace Emissary - if you get them to join your team they become unlocked.

okay, first of all, Zero Suit Samus is not "unlockable"

you can use her by getting a final smash with Samus.

(By the way, if you didn't know, you get a final smash by destroying the smash ball then pressing B)

and if you want to get toon link, the best way to do it would be to beat the subspace emissary. then when you defeat it, go to the forest level again, where a floating door will appear a little bit into the level, go through the door and beat Toon Link to unlock him. or if you don't want to beat the subspace emissary, you can just play 400 VS matches.
