  1. Always tell them the specials when you first get to the table.  Know your beers: the pale ales, wheats, lagers, etc.  Also, be prepared to suggest mixed drinks or substitutions.  The more you know the more you can talk them into buying a drink.  Also let customers know what your personal favorites are.

  2. Tell them about some drinks or shots that are delish and specialties at where you work. Tell them you've been trying to get the owner to add this shot to your menu and the more you sell the more chance he will add it. Lower neckline is true, h**l it works to get drinks bought for me at the bar so it should work to get them to buy more drinks. If they flirt with you flirt back. Ask questions like you guys just getting out of work? Did you have a good day/rough day? Let me bring you a drink to get your mood up or calm you down a bit.

  3. super smile and greeting.use the words gentlemen and lady when talking to themlower neckline....clean ashtrays and keep salties coming.

  4. Now I know this might sound bad, but it works for my sister.

    Lower neckline, higher skirt!

  5. The most important thing is to know your drink menu: know at least three items REALLY well from the wine menu, specialty drinks menu, and beer menu.  If you are 21, try them yourself and be honest.

Suggest specifics.  For some reason, people respond better to "Would you like another glass of <name of wine they are drinking>?" or "Would you care for another Grey Goose martini?" than they respond to "How about another drink?"

Hit them up when they are halfway through.  They will just have started to feel the alcohol and not switched to water yet.  Usually if you can sway one person at the table, the others will follow.  If they seem hesitant, offer to bring the drink in a few minutes after they have had more time to work on the first one.

When people do order mixed drinks, offer specific premium liquors.  If they want a Tom Collins, offer it with Beefeater Gin; if they order a margarita, offer it with Patron or Cuervo 1800.  This is where knowledge will come in very handy.  If they ask what liquors you have and you don't know, they will get frustrated and just order the house liquor.

Last, read your guests.  Don't offer tequila shots to an elderly couple.  If two people at the table order the same wine, offer a bottle (this is huge!  they will accept 90% of the time).  Offer wine more during the winter and tropical mixed drinks during the summer.

I hope this helps.  I really cannot stress knowledge enough.

  6. Great service should be enough to keep the drinks flowing.  When the drink is 1/2 empty you should be at the table ready to bring another...offer some shots to those rowdy groups.  Great personalities go a long way too in a bar.

With our poor economy, people are hanging on to every dime these days.  Good Luck.

  7. Show some T and A.  I'm a drinker who goes out a lot, you think i'm kidding?  It works, just get friendly.  But, not too friendly.

  8. ask your customers if they want a shot, and have some suggestions

  9. SMILE!  :o)
