Question:

How to upgrade hard drive in Comcast Motorola DVR?

I have the Comcast Motorola Dual-Tuner DVR High-Definition Set-Top DCT6412. I'd like to increase the hard drive capacity in order to store more TV shows. Any idea what's involved in replacing the hard drive?

Also, does anyone know what type of hard drive is in there?

Years ago when I had WebTV, increasing the HDD capacity was as simple as swapping out the drive. All of the firmware self-loaded and there was nothing else to do. I'm hoping this will be the same way.

  1. If you are renting this box from your cable company, I would not suggest doing this, it won't work. Check out the My DVR expander from Western Digital. A website called www.weaknees.com carries it and there are forums on there that will tell you how to install it. It is basically plug and play.

  2. Hi bobseditsuite,

I think you can find what you need to know at the DVR Playground.
