  1. In order for you to run Windows 64-bit you need to have a 64-bits processor. To find out if your processor is 64-bits capable, download and run this tool:

    http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

Look under "Instructions". If you see "x86-64" than your processor is 64-bits capable and you can install windows 64-bit.

If you don't see that there, it means that your processor is not 64-bits capable and, in order to run a 64-bits Windows, you would need to upgrade your processor. But first you need to find out if your motherboard is capable of running a compatible 64-bits processor. Try contacting the manufacturer of your PC / Motherboard and inquire about possible upgradeability to a 64-bits processor.

If your motherboard can't handle it, you will need to upgrade both your motherboard and your processor.

I wouldn't advise you to upgrade to a 64-bits operating system unless you plan on using 4GB of RAM or more.
