Me and my friends filmed an hour worth of footage on a camcorder, put the disc in the computer and nothing showed up. As you can imagine were pretty pissed.

HOW DOES IT WORK!?

  1. Sounds like you are using a DVD based camcorder.

Finalize the disc in the camcorder (if it needs it). Check the camcorder's manual to see if THAT DVD type has to be finalized - if so, there will be instructions.

Your computer needs to have a drawer loading DVD drive. If so, then download and install HandBrake

    http://handbrake.fr/

Take the disc out of the camcorder, put it in the drawer loading DVD drive in the computer and launch HandBrake. Rip the video to something your computer's video editor likes...

Windows and MovieMaker likes .avi, .wmv and .dv formats.

Macintosh and iMoveHD likes .mov, .mp4 and .dv...

When the video is done getting ripped, quit HandBrake; launch MovieMaker or iMovieHD and drag the converted files into the clips or timeline pane. Edit. Save.
