I am a klutz with chopsticks but I can usually grab bigger things ok...little things like rice, supposedly it is perfectly acceptable to raise the bowl to your mouth and use the sticks for a "shovel" type thing.

With rice, it's easier to use chopsticks to eat with rice if the rice is in a bowl. There, you can just basically scoop rice into your mouth (true Chinese style) :)
