This is my 1st gas stove. The plates ignite by pressing the ignite button, however, when I turn the k**b for the oven, i can smell the gas, but nothing happens if i press the ignite button? Do you have to light it seperatly, or do you have to wait a certain amount of time? I'm scared to wait to long, because of the gass smell, don't want to blow up my house :-)

  1. Have someone from the gas company come out and inspect your stove.  If it is not functioning correctly, they will recommend a repair company to help you.

  2. The oven should have its own pilot light. I've never seen ones that aren't on all the time for the oven.

If you don’t know how to light it and don’t have a manual, you can usually look one up online. If you own this home, consider having someone from your gas company out to inspect the until. If you’re a renter, contact your landlord and have them explain the process.

  3. You are correct to be concerned about the gas smell.  Natural gas actually has no odor.  The gas company ADDS a chemical to make it smell just so you become concerned about it.  That said, if it doesn't light right away, turn it off and open a window.

The oven might have a pilot.  Open up the very bottom of the range and look in the way back, you should see the pilot mechanism.  You might just have to light that thing once it airs out.

Might be difficult if you don't know what you're looking for, though.  :(

  4. mine does that sometimes. just light a match and hold it to the pilot light it'll catch right away. Your house will not blow up if you do that. But it will if you wait too long (like 30sec) to light the gas after you turn the k**b. My parents have been having it forever! But if it's still under warranty then heck yea! Get someone out there to look at it.
