How to use law to against crime by police officer?

Wish you added more information about the crime.  Did you witness a police officer murder a hooker?  Did the officer park in an unauthorized parking zone for handicapped?  

It's your civil duty to report misuse of power.  Read that again.  REPORT it.  You are not an attorney, or a District Attorney, so if your plan is to "get" the police officer you will most certainly make your name well known .. aka targeted.  Maybe you could provide more information about the dynamics surrounding this.   Do not attempt to take on a police department by yourself, without the committed assistance from at least 2 news media stations, a US Senator, and a whole lot of activists.

Almost all non rural towns have civilian review board to complain to. If that does not work contact the county prosecutor's (DA) public integrity unit. The DA is the chief law enforcement officer for the county. The attorney general is usually the name for the chief law enforcement officer of your state.

If you insist on fighting. You better hire an exp'd attorney and be ready for a lenghty court battle.

You don't.  Drawing attention to yourself by going up against a cop is not a good idea. Cops stick together and you may become a target. I would let it go and not say a word.
