i have to do conversions for homework and i need help with a few. you don't have to do all of them. you can just do one or two. can you explain also? i know all about moving the decimal with the Kilo, hecto, deca, meter, deci, centi, and milli, but the squared thing is confusing me.

10m^2= ________cm^2

56m^2= ________cm^2

500 cm^2 = _______m^2

6944 cm^2 = _______m^2

  1. kilometre      1000 metres

    hectometre   100 metres

    decametre    10 metres

    metre           1 metres

    decimetre     .1 metres

    centimetre    .01 metres

    millimetre     .001 metres

all you need to know to do your homework

  2. You have to square the multipliers.

    So as there are 100 cm in a m there will be 100^2 cm^2 in a m^ or 10000 cm^2 in a m^2.

    So 56m^2 = 56x10000 cm^2 = 560000 cm^2.

    Conversely, 1cm^2 = 1/100 x 1/100 m^2

    So 6944 cm^2 = 6944 / 10000 m^2 = 0.6944 m^2.
