  1. Make sure the subtitle file has EXACTLY the same name with the .avi file. Then, it should normally play automatically. I would suggest you to download BS Player, it's the best. Also, if you get .sub subtitles, change the extension from .sub to .srt

If they still don't play, drag the subtitle file into the screen where the movie's playing. (This works ONLY for BS Player and VLC)

    Hope I helped!! O_o

  2. Well in VLC media player... you have to either push "K" key on the keyboard once or twice... until it says like... "English subtitles track" or something to that extent on the top of the screen.... or you can go up to video... then subtitles track... and click the English subbed one.

The subtitles are supposed to work in Media Player and DivX fine though. o_O

It might just be because of the types of files that you're downloading... usually .mkv or .avi files are the ones used for Anime. The .mkv play in VLC with subtitles if you do what I said before.... and the .avi file subtitles should work already in Media Player. ._.

Hope that helped (don't think it did). ^^"

  3. Download Gom player and make sure the subtitles in whatever format (such as .srt) has the same name as the video file

    ex) video - file

         sub file - video.srt

gom player should recognize the sub right away
