Which version of this sentence is correct:

The information given by the two reports are not consistent with one another.

OR

The information given by the two reports is not consistent with one another.

Or if you have a suggestion on a different way to word this sentence that would be helpful too.

Thank you!

  1. informations

  2. It should be "is not" because although the word information can include multiple pieces of ... uh... information, the word is still considered singular.

You can leave out the word "information" altogether, since the implication is that the report contained information.

"The two reports were not consistent with each other" means essentially the same thing as "the information given by the two reports is not consistent with one another"

  3. i'd use "are not" consistent. and i'd use "given *in*" the reports.

also, you can use "data" in place of "information". "data" is plural for datum (archaic).

  4. It is the second one, even though you are using "information" as meaning a wealth of information, it is still seen as one group, therefore, it is a single group of information, if that makes any sense.

  5. The information in the two reports is not consistent.  Leave out the last part.

You could also say "the two reports are not consistent."
