  1. The same way as you would on land. :)

    If you have a specific point in mind, you point the "lubber" line at the target, take a heading, and rotate the bezel (outer dial) to that heading.  

    You then swim with the compass arrow lined up in the navigation marks to go to that point.  

    To swim a heading, you set your heading on the bezel, and swim with the compass needle in the navigation lines.  

    To swim back, you add 180 degrees to your original heading, and that will give you the way back.
