  1. it is a machine used by auto machanics, you can't do it yourself with out the machine. but basically what it does is boil the moisture out of the system so it cools correctly. typically you can have it done for about $70.00, then add refridgerant.

  2. A set of guages                       $65.00

    Vacuum Pump                        $500.00

    Micron Guage                         $300.00

Hook one hose to car, one hose to vacuum pump and one hose to micron guage. Read the instructions for the vacuum pump and micron guage. Run an electric cord to the vacuum pump and micron guage and have at it. A proper vacuum is achierved when you pull the system down to 500 microns and it holds for 30 minuets with the pump valved off.

  3. Air conditioning parts supplies may carry a vacuum pump.

You also need manifold gauge.  Vacuum for about 2-3 hrs. for all the moisture to evaporate, stand another hr for leak.  Don't touch it if u don't know anything.

  4. First you'll need gauges a vacuum pump and line with proper fittings.(for r134 or r12)no need to change over,in an r12 system you can use hot shot or freeze12.

Hook the blue line to the low side, hook the fat vacuum line to the fat fitting on the gauge manifold and the other end to the vacuum pump, don't worry about the red line,it's for the high side.

Close all the ports on the gauges manifold except the low side supply line(the blue one)and the vacuum line, turn on the pump and open it.Watch the low side gauge,it should go down.

If it's not going down nice and fast, you got a big leak.If it does go down fast let it go as low as you can, then shut the pump off for a while to see if it will hold a vacuum.

Charging the system is another story. :)

  5. Hook your blue hose to the low pressure side. Hook your freon can to the yellow hose. Hook your vacuum pump to the red hose.Open the red and blue valves full and turn the vacuum pump on. Let it pull down to as near to negative 30 as possible. Leave freon can shut off. When it pumps down for about an hour close both red and blue hoses and turn vacuum pump off. Wait an hour and see if the vacuum holds. If it holds then open the freon can and open the blue hose. Let the system equalize and listen for the low pressure cutout switch to click. Start the car and run the idle up. Slowly charge the unit till it gets to about 28 PSI and stop for a moment let the freon equalize. Listen to fan belt. If it squeals you are adding too much at a time or have overcharged the unit. 35 PSI is ideal. Vacuuming and charging a unit ain't a 5 minute job. Each small can of freon is 12 ounces. The average car only holds about 2 and 1/2 cans.Look on the refrigerant tag on your vehicle for the refrigerant type and charging amount. Do not overcharge the AC.Flooding the system with too much liquid will choke down the compressor and stop the cooling. Any air that gets into the system will turn to ice and block the flow of the freon.Do not let air get into the system.
