I am having 3 yr old son, going kindergarden. It is very hard to make him awake in the morning. As me and husband are working, we finish our household chores and we all go to bed by 10.30pm only. I will start awaking him from 6.30am and he wakes up aroun 7.15 am, nearly it takes 30-45 minutes for me to wake him up. His school bus arrives at 8.15am in the morning. So I have less time in making him ready and make him have breakfast. Most of the day he skips breakfast.

Kindly advice me on this. Thanks in advance.

  1. smack him with a phone book.

  2. Put him to bed earlier. My kids are 3 and 4 and are in bed at 8:30pm, or they too wouldn't wake in the morning. Its not good that his missing breakfast! Your son does not need to be awake while you do the household chores. The poor bubs is only getting 8 hours sleep a night. Thats not enough for a 3 year old. Fix the routine around your child, not around you and your hubby

  3. Kids need way more sleep than adults do! Put him to bed earlier and he will be more rested and easier to get up in the morning.

  4. Wow that's really late for a 3yr old to be going to bed, no wonder he doesn't wan to get up in the morning, they need alot of sleep at that age as they are developing in every possible way rather quickly, You really need to put him to bed at around 8, so he gets a good 10 hours sleep. The when he's used to those hours of going to bed, his waking times should be alot easier. and if he gets enough sleep he might just have breakfast. at 3yrs old it really isn't good enough that you let him skip it, he really needs that meal to fuel the energy for the day.

find a cereal he likes, or toast or crumpets or a piece of fruit, something. it's called persistance, stick to it and things will improve in no time flat.

  5. I agree with Babzz.  Kids need to be in bed by 7 or 8 p.m.  They are little computers for god sakes with little brains that are still growing.

Why do they need to be in bed way earlier than adults?  Because their brains are developing extremely fast, and their brains don't have the components that adult brains have to not have to sleep very long. The brain is an organ that retains information. Since kids don't have outside world information when they are born, just reflexes to protect them, they have to learn things that adults don't have to learn, hence why their brains are almost always sleeping.  Babies and children need to sleep, because when they sleep, their brains retain what has just been learned throughout their day.  Sleep is like a file organizer to the body.  When the body sleeps, it doesn't have to take care of anything else.  It can begin to organize everything into its proper places, like the search button can organize things on the computer when you press the button.  The brain and body, though, is a more advanced piece of work than a computer search engine.  It not only files away words and speech, logic or pains, or sounds or music into its proper places.  It runs through the scenery that you saw that day (thousands upon thousands of things that a computer could never pick up), flips at a speed so fast that the brain can sometimes catch a glimpse of it (but not always) speeding by (you'll see it when you are really, really tired or fearful, sort of like a photo book flashing by in the shape your mind sees things), such as dreams, works through the scenery, picks which situation or scenery needs to be worked out (why dreams come about) and organizes it, until it is finished, and then, you can wake up, once it is done organizing everything and once you don't sound like, "Blah, Blllla, bla bla blah" when you are talking to somebody.  Children need lots of sleep because they don't know what a two, a plus, and a two is without thinking about it, until they go to sleep and wake up again. Adults on the other hand, already know what two plus two is and can even tell you what 2+2*7 is without going "Ummm...," even at three o'clock in the morning.  So, since kids don't have developed brains yet, as much as adults, they need to have as much sleep as possible.

  6. My goodness!!!!! 10.30pm is far too late a night for what is still a baby!!!!

Remember your wee boy has only been on this earth for 3 years and needs his sleep to grow!

I put my 3yr old to bed no later that 8pm. Kids need at least 10 hrs sleep if not more. I even put my 8yr old to bed at 8.30!!

DON'T MAKE HIM SKIP BREAKFAST! Its not fair. Kids need their '3 meals a day'  Much better to put him to bed early so he can get up for breakfast than make him skip this meal altogether!

  7. PUT HIM TO BED ATLEAST AN HOUR TO AN HOUR AND A HALF EARLIER. I K NOW YOU WILL BE AWAKE BUT MAKE HIM LAY DOWN EVEN IF DOESNT GO TO SLEEP RIGHT AWAY, LIMIT HIS TOYS IN THE ROOM SO HE DOESNT GET UP AND PLAY WITH THEY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. IF YOU CAN GET HIM TO BED THE EARLIEST 8 AND LATEST 9 THEN I THINK YOU SHOULD BE OK! I PRACTICALLY RAISED MY 3 LITTLE SISTER AND I HAD TO DO THIS ALL THE TIME, SO I CAN GET THEM UP BY AT LEAST 6 FOR THE BUS. IT ALWAYS WORKED!

  8. Wake him up earlier.  Wake him up at 6 so that he will be up by 6:30.  Make sure he eats breakfast, that's really important!

  9. he should be in bed by 7.30 at the latest. And 3 is too young for kinder. Wait another year before sending him off
