Question:

How to wash cigarette smoke off flat white walls?

My boyfriend just quit smoking and he did smoke indoors sometimes so the place still smells a little. Its not too bad but we'd like to wash the walls to help get rid of some of the remaining smell.

What is a good way to wash them? Can we just use plain vinegar and water mix and clean rags or do we need to use a special product? Also the paint looks flat to me, not eggshell or anything. What is the difficulty with washing flat paint? The paint is white, does that make it easier?

This is a rental so we cannot paint and I don't want to damage the walls. Any ideas/tips on how to get the walls cleaner?

  1. for cheaper remedies, try using vinegar and baking soda for cleaning the walls and floors..

or if you have the money, consider putting air purifiers... air ventilation is a must... make sure that your room is well ventilated. use air ventilation device. air ventilation devices will not let the smoke sticks on your walls and furnitures...

  2. A small box of Arm & Hammer washing soda and some vinegar. Just dump about a cup of vinegar and a handful of the washing soda in a bucket and added hot water. This will remove the nicotine and get them as close to white again. It works a lot better than commerical cleaners.

  3. Dawn dish soap, warm water, and a rag that you can throw away. The ceiling may need washed too. Be sure to clean your floors as well! Good luck and tell your boyfriend on congrats on kicking such a hard to beat habit!
