How to wipe a Hard drive clean

Question

My HDD is in a HDD enclosure and I wanted to know what program can wipe my hard drive securely and all clean. I want something with at least 3 passes.

I heard of some that only do a low level deletion.

I know there are some programs but they require you to make a boot CD and ect. Many of those don't reconize my HDD enclosure because it's plugged through my USB

It's hard to wipe completely clean, that's why people remove them when they get rid of their computer.
