  1. it looks like you are asking how to rig a new steering cable in a fiberglass boat, does the boat have exisitng steering, if so when you remove the old steering cable look where it is, most boats will have a rigging tube imbedded in the boat, if the boat doesnt already have a steering system, i would suggest you going to Teleflex website and doing some research

  2. Cable systems operate in a push-pull manner with a jacketed cable sliding through a guide tube that is secured on both ends. When the driver turns the steering wheel, actual cables control the outboard or stern drive, which dictate the direction of the boat.

You'll understand once you see this.

  3. Yeah...grab all the parts from Attwood.

Or go to the wreckers...get a steering wheel...you need a shaft and a drum for the back...behind the dash.

Now get some vinyl coated clothes line and 4 sheaves(blocks) and a 2 springs about 6" long to controll slack.

Mount the sheaves at four corners of your boat...2 behind the dash in line with the drum on your wheel and 2 at the back in line with the front of your outboard.

Start with the cable tied to your outboard...run each way through the back sheaves...then forward. about midway, cut the line on each side and install a spring then continue forward through the front sheaves and return to the drum.

Drill 2 holes in the drum. Wrap the right line over the drum to the left and the left line over to the right. Try the wheel before cutting the line and knotting it in the holes...

That's the quick and dirty Gumby steering system. good luck.

the parts section of www.motors.ebay.com will turn up more reliable stuff quite inexpensively though.

  4. Ride Guide Steering is a self contained unit with the Cable attached to the steering wheel base.

Cable steering is a Plastic coated Cable that Winds around the steering wheel Base pulley 5 or 6 times with both cable end.s coming from the Bottom of the steering pulley Left cable will run to the left of the hull to a Pulley then down the hull to a pulley located left rear Hull even with the steering point on the outboard, your motor will have 2 Pulley,s and two Damper Spring,s the cable will run through the pulley and Back to the Transom and Attached To a solid Clevis. Repeat for the Right side. Put it on Paper and you will see what I mean.

  5. Not something that can be easily explained over the internet in a message group. Do some searching on the internet, library or bookstore.

There are also a few "cable" systems; whhich kind you have is not specified.
