How to work in a us consulate????

i'm italian and i study law....my dream is to become an ambassador or a consulate workin in the us....what studies do i need to make or what universities do i need to attend to be able to do this job???

apart from havin important aquaintances in the government or in the consulates;P is there a way to be part of this world???

  1. It is unclear, do you want to work at a US foreign mission, or a foreign mission in the US?

    To work at a US foreign mission, you must have the legal authority to live and work in the host country. At that point, you are eligible to apply for Local Hire positions posted directly by the US embassy/consulate/foreign mission. Jobs usually range from custodial to clerical and other mission support positions, including translators and protocol assistants. Check the website for each location that interests you for available positions and necessary qualifications.

    If you wish to work in the US at a foreign mission, you would either be hired directly by the mission (for example, the Embassy of Italy in Washington, DC) through the country's equivalent of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, or, if you had the legal authority to live and work in the US, you could apply directly for their Local Hire positions.
