I'm new to cars. Wondering what car stats would I use to work out how much distance I can get on 1 litre of petrol or gas?

  1.     Everyone's driving habits and routes of travel affect the cars ability to give the best or worst petrol efficiency. Simplest method is to start with a known full tank. Most accurate that you fill the tank until you can see the petrol just at the fill neck. You do not have to fill to the overflow point. Rather than letting the automatic pump kick-off do it. Some pumps are stronger than others. Affecting the fill level.

Then write down the odometer reading. These are your starting points for calculation. Then, once the fuel level gets to 1/4 to 1/2 tank indicated, re-fill as you did before. Noting the new odometer reading. Subtract the new reading from the old reading. This is the kilometers driven. Divide this driven kilometers by the amount of liters used. This figure is the efficiency of the car and your driving habits.

In town driving will be lower. Averaged driving will be higher. And all highway will show the best. Jack rabbit starts are bad for the efficiency. Learn to drive efficiently or as you feel what is necessary for your routes. A petrol guzzler will never be efficient. So be happy with whatever you get. Or not. Live with it.

  2. How about the car's kilometer-per-litre number?
