Of course I know what third person is, but how do I write a proposal in third person? How can I possibly propose what I am going to be researching for 15 weeks if I cannot state my personal goals and intentions for the paper?

  1. You'll need to use the passive voice... a lot.  Just reword your thoughts so there isn't the first person subject.

Instead of "I will explain..." try "There will be an explanation..."

Instead of "I want to demonstrate..." try "Next will be a demonstration that..."

Instead of "I will prove..." try "Evidence will be presented..."

If this style of writing is awkward for you, you may wish to consider writing the first draft in the first person and then revising.
