A city park has two walkways, one 3x12 m and the other 1x12 m. Theres a grassy area in the center, which is 6x6 m. How do I write an expression for the area of the sidewalks, using subtraction? I'm really stuck on this. I don't want the answer, just some help on how to get it.

  1. idk

  2. the grassy area is what is subtracted....extraneous....I don't know.....if you don't have a picture of how the sidewalks look it is good to make your own.....do the walkways cross each other or do they run parallel....not enough information to provide a logical answer.....the grass can't be in the center unless you have four walkways or some circular walkways.

  3. Emily,

Draw a picture.  The grassy area is extraneous information, really.
