  1. Kenji is a Japanese personal name.

Kanji is the Chinese character system used by Japanese people.

Names which are not Japanese in origin are never written in Kanji or hiragana, but rather only in katakana.

  2. We write foreign names in Katakana not in Kanji.

    In Katakana, it is:

    ジョナサン (jonasan)

  3. jonathan-ey

  4. 助奈参

    (Read: Jo-na-san)

roughly meaning 'to help by being present'

In your searches, you are getting different spellings because the associated kanjis have different meanings, but the pronounciation of all of them is likely the same.

*In response to later posts: The other posters are right in that kanji is not traditionally used for 'foreign' names, but that does not mean that such a name couldn't be written out in kanji at all.  Many of my Canadian and American friends who study Japanese have created kanji spellings for their names.  In fact, choosing a kanji form of a non-Japanese name is a good exercise in kanji proficiency.

In addition, recent Japanese baby names use non-traditional readings of kanji to match the pronounciation of a name.  The line is becoming more and more blurred between traditional kanji and the naming process, even within the culture.
