Im 14 and my tone/pitch is ok but my voice sounds very babyish. My speaking voice does too and has a bit of a funny accent aswell. Is there anything i can do to make it sound more grown up?

  1. I had the exact same problem. Open your mouth tall, not wide. It may sound unnatural to you, but to others you sound more mature. Also, make sure your sound is coming from the back of your throat.

  2. First of all, theres no reason to want to sound more mature. As a singer myself, I know that your voice matures as you get older. However there are a few tricks that you can use to sound less babyish. When singing, if you drop your jaw add some forced bravado, and articulate your vowels, you should be good to go!

  3. As mentioned, your voice will mature, but the baby tone is most likely coming from tension. Dropping the jaw will make your singing sound more rounded. But if you force it down it will cause more tension and your tone will suffer. I would look into some diaphragm exercises for a little more power and try to become self-aware of the tension in your throat/jaw/tongue. A really good exercise to practice is singing a scale in a comfortable range of two syllable combinations. Try singing la-ga-la-ga without moving your jaw at all. This will release tension in the jaw and tongue. It will open your throat in the back and give you a good preview of what your tone can be. Check out youtube-Eric Arceneaux- hes excellent
