  1. gratitude :-)

  2. According to the ancient Vedas One must take up the process of self reaization to become truely happy.  In a nut shell one must first understand that

We are not this material body, IE; Race, color, nationality, Religion, mind, intellect, senses, job, etc. We are all eternal spirit souls, part and parcel of the Supreme Soul, also known as Krishna, Allah, Jehovah, Vishnu, etc.  We never die, only this mortal body dies. This material world is not our real home, it is called Maya (illusion) and is temporary and full of misery, only one fourth of the souls come here, and the rest are enjoying blissful eternal loving relationships with our Maker named above. We fell here due to envying Gods position.  He made the material world for those who want to try to live separately from Him (Which is impossible because He is actually everywhere).  After many lifetimes of trying to be happy in this temporary world, one becomes frustrated and board and begins to question their existence. We then seek out real happiness, and when one becomes sincere God reveals how to come back Home. Those who are intelligent, take up the process of self realization (Bhakti Yoga), which begins with the chanting of the Maha Mantra, (the great mantra for deliverance from all suffering and illusion), which gives one real peace, happiness and reality. (see my profile for a link for all info on this mantra). Then at the end of life, they can give up all material attachments and fully surrender to God and return to the eternal Kingdom, where there is no more birth, death, old age, or disease and be eternally happy. 3. We are happy when we appreciate the things around us.  Learning to appreciate simple things and permanent things in our lives helps us to stay happy.  Happiness is the basis of our spiritual well-being and everyone needs a certain amount of it to exist.  When you learn to accept awful times in your life as well as good times and accept change you can be happy frequently but believe me its not easy learning to be happy without friends when you build your life upon them and also people you get on well with.  It causes great pain to let them go and many years to accept what has happened.

  4. I think happiness is totally a choice.  It's all in how you look at situations and how you choose to react when things happen.  My family recently lost our home of 20 years due to a foreclosure (variable rate mortgage coupled with my Mom being out of work for a year due to breast cancer and me losing my job right after she started back to work).  Sucks, right?  But consider that when we bought it, we found out that there were three pages worth of violations that the agent had hidden from us, and since it was an as is sale, we had no recourse.  We;ve been trying to get MAJOR stuff repaired on this house all along, but having difficulties due to how much needed to be done and the unexpected nature of it.  the house has been a millstone around our necks and impossible to sell: 1. because where we live houses have to be up to code to sell them and 2. because no one will buy a house that jacked up in this economy.

So did the house getting taken away suck?  No, because we were able to walk away from it free and clear and are now renting a fabulous place where we don't have to worry about fixing stuff when it goes wrong!  It's all hardwood floors, so that's better for my asthma and we now live in the same city we work in, so no regional income tax.  It's all in how you CHOOSE to look at things, and we have chosen to be happy.

  5. I believe that we choose to be happy or not, and I know there are going to be people angry with my answer saying that there are always extenuating circumstances...well I get that, but no matter how bad your life is  at the end of the day you can choose to let those bad things turn you bitter and unhappy or you can understand that everything happens for a reason. We learn from the bad times. We need them to truly appreciate the good times. So we those things happen if you understand that then you can say, "Life isn't where I want it to be, but I'm happy regardless." Stop forgetting about the good things you do have and be happy for those things.

  6. "There's... no higher bliss [happiness] than peace."

    Dhammapada v. 202

  7. money, freinds, family

    aniamls

    food, going to fun places

  8. At times when little in life holds pleasure, and there is all too much pain to be found, life is tedious and tiresome, the days pass as slow grinding angst ridden torture. ...

I reconcile my mind to my fate and lot, and soldier on, with a smile, frowning pulls the facial muscles and mars my countenance, therefore I have a vested interest in smiling when times there is nothing to smile or be happy about.

Happiness is a perspective. We can focus upon what is good and wonderful about the world and life. Or we drown into our melancholy, sink into woe, rack our hearts with rage, what point is it...

Were you not embarking upon a love affair with a lady overseas you were enamoured with a while ago. I wondered what great vision of wonder and loveliness it must be to sway and take Manapa’s attentions away from God and his faith towards a great utopian nirvana beckoning overseas.... curious ...?

  9. True Happiness happens whenever we are not judging anything.

Any time that you are not judging you are happy.

The moment that you start judging, you find something to be unhappy about.

    It really is that simple.

    Love and blessings Don

  10. Becoming happy is like that old question, one guy is following another guy down a trail and the one guy asks," where are you going?" The other guy says, " I can't say but I'll know it when I get there."  Happiness is the same to me.  I can't tell you how to get there but you'll know it when you arrive.

  11. I find happiness in God
