  1. idk but i want to go to U.C.L.A  but my grandpa is real ...how do i say it"?close" to some of the officials at U.C.L.A so I don't have to worry I'm automatically in

  2. It's tough, but not impossible. I went to UCLA from a community college.   UCLA was my dream school, so I followed their transfer requirements to the letter. It's easier if you are in Honors courses because they weigh heavier in the minds of UCLA admissions, but if you haven't been taking Honors don't fret - a high GPA, well-rounded extracurricular activities, and demonstration of ability to succeed will go far. I took Honors classes, but I had a community college classmate who didn't, and she was also accepted into UCLA.

For the person who posted that their admission was guaranteed because their grandfather was friends with someone at UCLA...good luck to you. I had a classmate at UCLA whose father was the dean of one of the colleges, and he was denied admissions twice - he finally had to excel and transfer in from a community college. Even if your grandfather's friend can get you in, you won't last long if you haven't prepared. UCLA is rigorous!!

Remember, UCLA has the highest amount of applications for admission in the nation. Because of this, UCLA is able to be incredibly selective, but if it is really a dream of yours, I say do whatever it takes to get there...I did, and I did it in my thirties. If you're as serious as I was, there's no reason for you not to be accepted. And don't underestimate the power of your personal statement!

    Good luck to you.

First of all if you are in a community college you need to be taking ALL honor's classes. UCLA is such a difficult school to get in to.

    Transfer Admission Guide 2008-09

    PDF version of this page

These pages provide admission selection and coursework information for junior-level transfer applicants. Refer to Applying for Admission for information about how to obtain an application and application filing deadlines.

Competition for transfer openings has increased in recent years. Thus, strong academic preparation and performance are primary elements in our admission decisions. The average GPA of transfer applicants who are admitted to UCLA is 3.50, and most students who are admitted have completed most or all of the preparatory coursework for their majors.

    Transfer Selection

The transfer selection review considers the following:

    Academic Criteria

Junior-level standing (60 semester/90 quarter transferable units completed) by the end of the spring term before you transfer.

GPA of 3.20 or higher earned in transferable courses.

Progress towards completion of major preparation requirements by spring prior to transfer (see below).

There may be additional lower division requirements that students may complete--either at their current institutions or at UCLA. Should a major not have specific prerequisites, we expect students to demonstrate interest in academic study by completing coursework related to the major.

Completion of the UC English composition, mathematics, and additional subject requirements by spring prior to transfer:

Two courses in English composition/critical thinking and writing.

One transferable math course that has a prerequisite of intermediate algebra or higher.

Four transferable college courses in at least two of the following subject areas: arts and humanities, social and behavioral sciences, physical and biological sciences.

Completion of the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC), UCLA general education requirements, or another UC campus's breadth requirements is highly recommended for applicants to the College of Letters and Science and the School of Arts and Architecture.

Applicants to the School of Theater, Film, and Television must complete one of the aforementioned general education paths.

Applicants to the School of Nursing and the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science are strongly encouraged to work towards the respective school's curriculum requirements.

    Personal Criteria

    Employment while attending school

    Family responsibility

Returning to school where early grades are not indicative of strong academic performance

Ongoing involvement in campus organizations, student government, community service, or clubs

Circumstances that may have prevented students from achieving their highest overall academic performance

    Military service

The Personal Statement you submit with the application is the best place to discuss such information.

Lastly, we give highest priority to students who are transferring from California community colleges or other University of California campuses.

    Transfer Applicant Reviewers

The Undergraduate Admissions Office reviews applicants to the College of Letters and Science, while applications to the School of the Arts and Architecture; the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science; the School of Nursing; and the School of Theater, Film, and Television are reviewed by faculty members within the schools themselves. If you have additional questions regarding these programs, you should contact the schools directly.
