How tourism can be useful for a country that have a lot of tourist?

I mean what kind of benefits they bring for the country?

Where I live, Guam ( A small US Territory in the Pacific), our main industry is tourism. We've built our industry from the late 1960's to the present, and have emjoyed many benefits other than monetary gains.

Many of our people have become bi-lingual as a result of obtaining jobs in the tourism industry, have good paying jobs, and enjoy a good lifestyle.  Our children are exposed to other people from around the world, and have a broader view of the world and other cultures, religions, etc as a result.

People from other countries have moved here after visiting Guam, bringing with them their culture, religions, foods, etc, as well as expertise in areas such as business, construction, achitecture and arts, which they readily share with the native people of Guam.  I find that beneficial, don't you?
