  1. Considering that they haven't changed all that much since railroads changed from coal to diesel, they'll probably look pretty much the same, but more streamlined.  The real differences will be in the technology that drives and controls the trains.

Monorails and mag-lev trains are still novelties, but they might replace light rail or passenger service.  Freight service will not likely change much from what it is today, given the nature of the business and logistics.

  2. Long distance trains will come back. They will be sleek and very fast with a lot of accommodations.

The engineering of the tracks is what will be very exciting. Lots of tunnels to gain optimal speed and limit obstructions.

The impact to the enviroment would be kept to a minimum.

The train stations in the smallest of towns will be enclosed, for hotels, shops etc.

  3. I just heard that all trains will have to run on Natural Gas within the next 30 years & I can't even imagine that.

  4. If only we had the Delorean from Back To The Future and go ahead 200 years to see.  Probally more slick and airow damaic.  If only they can run steam engines again.  Like instead burning coal or oil, the tender holds water put has like vaccum on it to draw like heat air and goes in the firebox.  The locomoitve will have like a heater in it to heat the air, while water boils and steam is made and no more harm smoke.  Maybe the railway will huver in the future.
